He was given the Colorado PGA’s Todd Phipers media award in 2004, the Colorado Open’s Ralph Moore media award in 1996, and twice has been named Colorado Golf Association’s Golf Writer of the Year (1985 and 1990). Gary serves on the selection boards for both the Colorado Golf Hall of Fame and the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame.

Carrie Baines, the art director and designer for Colorado Golf Journal, is a fine-arts graduate of Montana State University in Bozeman. An art director and graphic designer since 1978, she worked for magazines, newspapers, and advertising agencies before establishing her freelance business in 1991. Carrie is an avid oil painter, and wood-burns/paints furniture and various wood pieces that sell in galleries and shops in Utah and Colorado.

The Colorado Golf Journal web site was founded in January 2008 with the intention of providing golfers and golf fans in the state a well-rounded news outlet about golf in Colorado. Included will be tournament coverage, features, columns, personal profiles, golf course reviews, travel stories and much more.

Gary Baines, the primary writer for Colorado Golf Journal, has been covering golf in Colorado for more than 25 years. He’s reported from every International PGA Tour event in the state as well as from every Colorado Open since 1983. Gary was the sports editor for the Boulder Daily Camera newspaper from 2002 through 2007, a period during which the sports section was named one of the top 10 in the nation in 2007 by the Associated Press Sports Editors.
